Events and Notifications for Your SaaS
guideMay 15, 2024 • GustavThere are many cases where it can be desirable to get notifications when your website visitors take certain actions. For example, if someone initiates a purchase, signs up, or inquires about a quote for your products or services. The notification can be anything from an entry in a database to a Discord or Slack message sent in a particular channel.
In this post we explore how this can be achieved for free using Tiny Metrics.
What is Tiny Metrics?
In a sentence, Tiny Metrics is a web analytics solution. It tracks standard metrics like page visits and visitor countries out of the box but supports more advanced cases like custom events, funnels, triggers and more.
What are Custom Events?
Custom events are user-defined and generally represent actions that visitors can take on your website. There are no limits as to what this can be but examples include sign-ups and purchases. You can attach relevant metadata to individual events when relevant, for example binding an event to a customer id or email so they can be used to gain insights on a more customized and fine grained level.
How to use Triggers?
In short, a trigger reacts to a custom event and performs an action as a result. Triggers can be configured to send a HTTP request or alternatively interact with existing integrations to, for example, send a Slack or Discord message.
This is the general flow:
At the time of writing the below screenshot illustrates what it involves to configure a trigger for Discord:
